Raul Martinez Elementary was built in 1992 as part of Project Renewal.  The school is named after the late Constable Raul C. Martinez, who served the Denver Harbor community.

The school was built to alleviate overcrowded conditions at Pugh, Elliot, and Scroggins Elementary Schools.

The library at Martinez is dedicated to Jose Adolfo Zamarron, a police officer who died in the line of duty.

The Wall of Writings is dedicated to the late Vanessa Strangefellow Jones, a teacher who served the children of Raul C. Martinez Elementary and had a love for writing.

On May 14, 2012, the Learning Garden was installed at Raul Martinez Elementary. It was donated by Jim Wilson, on behalf of Crescent Real Estate, through FACES of change.
